UPPER SANTA CLARA RIVER (USCR)
Highlight
The Tataviam Land Conservancy
WaterTalks was honored to serve the Tataviam Land Conservancy (TLC) by creating a Water Resources Inventory and other technical assistance for tribal sites in the Upper Santa Clara River region. The Inventory will help TLC as they create spaces for cultural practice, native plant nurseries and other uses – all of which were identified in the WaterTalks Strengths and Needs Assessment / Tribal Perspectives.
TLC was formed as a non-profit organization in 2018 focused on protecting the traditional territory of the Fernandeno Tataviam people through protective land management, cooperative agreements, and innovative cultural and educational programming.
The Watertalks Needs Assessment Report
The Needs Assessment Report summarizes data and analysis of community input regarding water-related needs and issues. Input was received through outreach to communities and institutions, including surveys and community engagement events in 2019-2020.

Funding for Disadvantaged Community Involvement Program (DACIP) Projects in Upper Santa Clara River
In 2022, WaterTalks invited interested parties in the Santa Clara River Watershed to respond to the Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking competitive projects that would benefit DACs, economically distressed areas (EDAs), and other underrepresented communities in Ventura County. A webinar was held to guide interested parties through the proposal process, which you can view at the link below. As this grant-funded program has come to a close, processing of new proposals has also gone on hold. Please stay tuned for future funding opportunities.
- Watch the WaterTalks Webinar: Funding for Water-Related Projects (2/1/2022) to learn how to develop a project for submission. Note that this webinar was held for Ventura County participants, but also applies to USCR.
